How to play

  1. Print a card and take a pencil. Read the clues together if needed.
  2. Watch quietly from a distance. Leave birds, nests and feathers where they are.
  3. Mark a box when you notice its action or feature. One bird can match several boxes. For the call clue, listen for a bird sound.
  4. Find three marked boxes across, down or diagonally. There is no free center square and no time limit.
  5. Use the second page to sketch one bird and record colors, actions, sounds and questions.

No species names needed

The clues ask for observations such as two birds together, a bird swimming or a bird taking off. You do not need to identify the species. Tail length and feather colors are your own descriptions, not identification rules. Leave a box blank if you are unsure.

Some clues may not occur where you watch. You can continue on another day or choose a different card from the full pack. This single sample gives everyone the same card; it is useful for trying the format or playing together.
