Choosing a square bird print for a small reading nook

A print can look clear on a phone and still feel too small, too dark or too busy beside a reading chair. Before ordering, test the actual shape on the wall and compare the colours under the light you use there. This is a studio guide to three of our own geometric bird illustrations, with a simple measuring check you can do before buying.

Start with a paper square, not the screen preview

For a 10 x 10 inch image, make a 25.4 x 25.4 cm paper square. Use paper you already have: several sheets joined together will do. Place it at the intended position using a method that is safe for your wall finish. Then look at it from the chair and from the doorway.

That square represents the image size. A mount, border and frame can make the finished piece larger. Check the selected product's outer dimensions before ordering, especially between shelves or beside a door. Do not buy a frame based only on the artwork's thumbnail.

Ask three questions:

  • Does the square fit the available space with room around it?
  • Can you see the main shape comfortably from the seat?
  • Does it compete with a lamp, a shelf edge or another picture?

There is no single hanging height that works for every chair and wall. Try the placement at your own seated eye level before committing to it.

Compare colour and shape in three different scenes

Meadow Hover: cream, teal and small warm accents

Meadow Hover shows a teal bird beside slender stems and small terracotta flowers, with a pale sun behind it. The cream background leaves more light space around the bird. Start here if you want a lighter image next to pale shelves or a cream wall. Compare the teal with one existing object in the room rather than trying to match every colour.

Water Garden: green layers and a floating bird

Water Garden uses a dark teal waterbird, pale lily pads and a single flower. The layered green water gives it more horizontal structure than Meadow Hover. It is an option to compare if the room already has green textiles or plants. Check the darker areas under your evening lamp; a screen's brightness can make them appear lighter than a print will.

Golden Flight: open wings, mountains and an ochre sun

Golden Flight places a dark geometric bird above angular mountains and a golden sun. Its spread wings give the strongest directional shape of these three. Compare it if you want the bird to be the clear focal point or already have warm wood or ochre accents nearby.

These are decorative illustrations, not bird-identification references. Pick the scene you like looking at, rather than expecting a photograph or a species plate.

One practical check before checkout

Open your preferred listing and confirm the selected print size, material, framing choice and final delivered price for your destination. A paper print, framed print and canvas are different products; their dimensions and costs need not match. Manufacturing and delivery estimates also depend on the chosen product and location.
